Finally winter has started to become a distant memory and our beautiful begonias are in full bloom! This is the time to start leaf and stem cuttings so they will root before the really hot weather gets here!
Johanna Kitson treated us to a wonderful slide show of the begonias, ferns, bromeliads and other plants that she photographed while on vacation in Scotland and England. The tuberous begonias growing en masse along the street of a Scottish town were incredible. As an absolute expert begonia grower, Johanna was able to describe the petioles and leaves of the various specimens she photographed and demonstrated once again the diversity of begonias. She also included some photos she took at the Fort Worth Botanical Garden, the storehouse of many endangered species. We thank her.
We are looking forward to our visits to Excelsa Nursery and to Gene Joyner’s Unbelievable Acres on March 28. Also, we are hoping to rent a bus for a trip to Fairchild Gardens for their annual plant sale on April 11 while the Chihuly glass exhibit is underway.
Our plant swap table was a little better than the previous month. Please consider bringing in a plant to exchange and go home with one you may not already have!
Look forward to seeing many of you at Excelsa or at Gene Joyner’s. Happy propagating!
