What a wonderful time of year this is! We have had glorious weather and our gardens have really come alive. Nearly all of the various begonias have bloomed by now and the cuttings we started last month have taken hold and rooted. Everything is growing like crazy and most of us will have attended the spring plant sale at Mounts. Never enough plants!
Our April meeting featured an unusual speaker, Bud Martin, who lives in the Orlando area. A former grower and hybridizer, Bud has changed gears and now focuses his horticultural efforts on making spectacular arrangements of all kinds of plants in various pots and baskets. No cut flowershere, but rather interesting presentations of begonias and bromeliads interspersed with cordylines, cannas, miniature pineapple, sansevieria, silver pilea, fittonia, crotons, and pathos.
Our speaker for May is Rick Schoellhorn. from Alachua, Florida. He is a relatively recent convert to begonias and now works for Proven Winners, a wholesale plant grower. He will certainly have a different perspective and we look forward to his presentation “Begonias in the Deep South”. Please bring a plant for the swap table. I look forward to seeing all of you.

Bud Martin has owned and operated his Plant nursery for the past 40 years, raising Bromeliads, orchids and begonias. Bud is also a member of the Florida Federation Garden Club. Bud fell in love with Container Gardening at age 22 and has promoted over the years the use and beauty of displaying plants in Containers.
Bud’s presentation was on Container gardening and how to utilize any space in the home and Garden to showcase plants. He demonstrated many techniques on how to display Plants in containers and in groups by size and height to showcase the use of contrasting colors.
Tips from Bud: To best showcase plants use of containers in pairs and also combinations of three (3) or more containers.Respectfully submitted,
