I thought that we had a very interesting meeting last month. I am particularly partial to speakers from our own Society! Thank you Johanna Kitson. We learned so much about species begonias.
This monthís program will be on bromeliads, which grow well with our begonias. Aprilís speakers will be Joe Libertucci & Jeff Hutchinson from the BROMELIAD SOCIETY OF THE PALM BEACHES. Bromeliads, like other companion plants, improve the look of our home gardens by giving depth, separation, and definition to our prized begonias. These guys are fun and always deliver an interesting message. Joe and Jeff will be bringing plants for sale, so we will get a preview of some of the bromeliads that will also be available at their societyís plant booth at the Spring sale at Mounts.
For those of you who missed the Propagation Party at Doris Happelís house, let me tell you that about 15 members attended. As usual, Doris was very generous with her plants and everyone went home with large plant cuttings. We hope to expand this workshop to twice a year, so please let me know if you would like that! Thank you Doris, for your support of our Begonia Societies events and workshop initiatives.
The Mounts Spring Plant Sale is April 23rd & 24th A lot of planning goes into this event and we need volunteers to help make this sale successful for our Society. I will be there myself all weekend so plan now so that you can help out for two hours or so.
Ed Whalen and I presented a program on Begonias March 23rd ' at the Mizner Country Club in Boca Raton. Their local garden club invited us down for an afternoon meeting, Residents (22) of their community gathered and we basically gave them a Begonias introduction, culture tips and cuttings of plants that were then planted into seedling pots. This is a terriffic opportunity share our Society and the love of growing these maginicant plants.
