Spring is Here! I can always tell…I was out back all weekend messing around and making piles of stuff. I need to wash out all my pots, trim all the plants and organize the many things I have accumulated that make my plants grow better (right)!
I started several trays of begonia cuttings. Hopefully, I will have starter plants to bring to meetings and pass out to members and newbies. It is Spring, so bring a friend to the next meeting, and we have the annual propagation party on Saturday the 19th at Doris's so it is the best time to entice a friend and support their new Begonia habit!
I would really like to thank all the volunteers that helped out during the February auction. As Trump would say "it was a great thing" and now we have some funds to do "really great things"!!! So talk to me and give your suggestions for a plant-finding field trip or a visit to one the gardens.
March is always a busy month for Begonia growers. For all you PBBS members, we will visit Doris Happel's house on Saturday, March 19th to selectively prune her overgrown Begonias, allowing us create cuttings and new plants for our collections. The following weekend please come to your Begonia Garden on Saturday, March 26th from 9am-11am for a good spring cleaning, plant staking, weeding, etc. We also need to move some plants to better spots.
As you clean up your plants at home, please remember to bring some cuttings in for exchange with other members. Everyone who attended the auction went home with plants...so share some cuttings! Try to bring in a show plant that is preforming well for you and tell us how you do it!! Everyone has different approaches and passed down culture tidbits.
If you are not a member of Mounts, go get a copy of LEAFLET ! a terrific issues devoted to Begonias and their culture, highlighting several of our members. Please convey to all who will listen our appreciation to the Mounts Gardens for the Feburary - May Issue of the Leaflet. They are really promoting our society, so lets use this to grow our membership and insure the growth and health of our society of Begonia lovers!
Thanks again for all your support! Our Begonia Society benefits from your efforts.

The Annual Begonia Auction was led by Auctioneer Johanna Kitson. She was Great, we had a good time with Johanna explaining and giving details on each begonia being auctioned. Emily and Travis Dempsey volunteered as plant runners. The plants were beautiful and many people went home with unusual Begonias.
There was also a Silent Auction, all plants found new homes.Respectfully submitted,
